Homemade Lasagna Bolognese Recipe

This Homemade Lasagna Bolognese recipe is a traditional Italian dish that is ideal for a relaxing dinner at home. This lasagna is sure to become a family favorite with layers of tender pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy ricotta cheese.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 50 minutes
  • Total Time: 1 hour, 20 minutes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente.
  • While the noodles cook, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook until the vegetables are softened in the skillet with the onion, celery, carrot, and garlic.
  • Stir together the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, basil, black pepper, oregano, and thyme in a skillet.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes.
  • Separately, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and salt.
  • Cover the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish with a thin layer of the meat sauce.
  • Arrange 3 cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  • Cover the noodles with a layer of the ricotta mixture.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the ricotta mixture.
  • Layers of meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese should be repeated two more times.
  • Grate the Parmesan cheese over the top of the lasagna.
  • Bake for 25 minutes with the baking dish covered in foil.
  • Remove the foil and continue baking for another 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Allow 10-15 minutes for the lasagna to cool before serving.
